A diaphragm pump is a positive displacement pump that uses the reciprocating motion of a flexible diaphragm to transport fluids. Its most notable structural feature is the complete isolation of the conveyed medium from the power transmission mechanism.
1. Working Principle
The diaphragm undergoes periodic deformation under the action of a driving mechanism (usually electric, hydraulic, or diesel engine), creating volumetric changes inside the pump chamber. When the diaphragm retracts, the pump chamber volume increases and pressure decreases, causing fluid to be drawn in through the inlet check valve. When the diaphragm moves forward, the pump chamber volume decreases and pressure rises, forcing fluid out through the outlet check valve. This reciprocating cycle enables continuous fluid delivery.
2. Advantages
Achieves absolutely leak-free operation, making it especially suitable for conveying toxic, hazardous, flammable/explosive, or high-purity media;
The pump body does not contaminate the fluid, meeting hygienic requirements for industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and electronics;
Capable of handling fluids containing solid particles, high‑viscosity materials, or shear‑sensitive substances, with a scope of application far exceeding that of traditional centrifugal pumps.
3. Drive Modes
Electric diaphragm pump: Provides stable and controllable flow, suitable for continuous operation.
Hydraulic diaphragm pump: Delivers high output pressure and is often used in metering applications.
Diesel engine diaphragm pump: Ideal for field environments without electrical power supply or where mobile operation is required.
4. Applications
Suitable for industries such as oil extraction, petrochemicals, electric power, and chemical engineering;
Capable of conveying sewage as well as various corrosive and non-corrosive media;
Can be manufactured into specialized pumps such as water injection pumps, pressure testing pumps, and acid/alkali/salt pumps;
Can be produced as special pumps such as liquid ammonia pumps, methyl carbamate pumps, polymer injection pumps, and alcohol injection pumps;
Covers industrial and agricultural pumps, adaptable to high-temperature and low-temperature operating conditions.
